Connect your coding agent
viewport install adds a /viewport command and conversation capture to each coding agent on your machine. The installer runs it for you.
What viewport install does
Section titled “What viewport install does”It looks for each supported agent by its folder in your home directory and sets it up:
- a skill that defines
/viewport. When you type/viewport pr, the agent runsviewport prand shows you the review’s link or the error. - hooks that run
viewport captureeach time you send a prompt and each time the agent replies, so the conversation is recorded.
For each agent it sets up, it prints a line like:
✓ Claude Code: /viewport added, conversation capture onIf it finds none, it prints no supported coding agent found. Running it again is safe: it rewrites its own entries and leaves your other settings alone.
Claude Code
Section titled “Claude Code”Found by ~/.claude. The skill goes to ~/.claude/skills/viewport/SKILL.md, and two hooks (on UserPromptSubmit and Stop) go into ~/.claude/settings.json.
Type /viewport pr in a Claude Code session.
Cursor
Section titled “Cursor”Found by ~/.cursor. The skill goes to ~/.cursor/skills/viewport/SKILL.md and the hooks to ~/.cursor/hooks.json.
Cursor creates ~/.cursor the first time it starts. If you installed Viewport before opening Cursor, open Cursor once and run viewport install again.
Type /viewport pr in Cursor’s agent chat.
Found by ~/.codex. The skill goes to ~/.agents/skills/viewport/SKILL.md and the hooks to ~/.codex/hooks.json.
Codex lists the skill as $viewport as well as in its slash command list, so $viewport pr and /viewport pr both work.
Copilot CLI
Section titled “Copilot CLI”Found by ~/.copilot. The skill goes to ~/.agents/skills/viewport/SKILL.md, the same file Codex uses, and the hooks to ~/.copilot/hooks/viewport.json.
Type /viewport pr in a Copilot CLI session.
What is recorded
Section titled “What is recorded”The hooks record your prompts and the agent’s text replies, each with the git branch that was checked out at the time. They do not record tool calls, file contents or command output. Each session is written to ~/.viewport/sessions/<agent>/<id>.jsonl on your machine.
Nothing leaves your machine until you run viewport pr. Then the CLI sends only the turns that belong to the branch you are reviewing; see Run a review.
Capture starts with sessions begun after viewport install. A conversation you had before installing is not recorded, so start a new session in your agent after installing.
Adding an agent later
Section titled “Adding an agent later”If you install another supported agent after Viewport, run viewport install again. It sets up the new agent and leaves the others as they are.
To remove the skill and the hooks from every agent, run viewport uninstall.
